When I failed to act quickly enough last night Gabriel prepared his own dinner by collecting rice and vegetable leftovers from the fridge. At one point he couldn’t reach a plate in the cupboard so he hoisted himself up, sat on the counter to grab it, then hopped on down. It was so… neurotypical. Just a tiny moment, a little slice of normalcy in that series of actions that any kid without special needs or their mom wouldn’t think twice about, but for me and after everything he’s been through, so big, you know?
