I find it hard to get excited about music; I’ve seen a lot of it and I’ve heard a lot of it. It’s not often that these wizened ears perk up at the sound of something so when I catch my interest being caught, I pay attention. There are artists doing entirely new things very well today, and there are also artists doing not-new things very well. I try to appreciate them equally.
A good cover is a testament to two things: it’s a testament to a talented songwriter who’s crafted a set of bones that will support all sorts of different meatsuits, and it’s a testament to a gifted artist who respects those bones enough to celebrate them with a fresh new kind of meatsuit.
Today I learned that Juliana Hatfield’s cover of “A Little More Love” is a very good cover. #bloguary
“Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John” comes out on American Laundromat Records April 13th.
