Words are a hot commodity. Marketing–especially the nefarious corporate appropriation of social media–has a new buzzword these days: “Storytelling.” As a bona fide Storyteller, I take issue with this. Any moron can string a bunch of words together (even some of the misguided souls that call themselves Social Media Experts), but that doesn’t make them particularly illuminating and/or a pleasure to read. I feel very strongly about words, about their use and their importance, and especially their power. As Associate Editor for the Navigator Newspaper last year, I had the opportunity to use my words on a lot of topics. Quite often, the topic turned to words. You’ll find one of my final editorials of the year here.
